HBM: Tell us about Boutique Explorer. What is your company about?

UNTIL: “Boutique Explorer offers private luxury tours around the world. We mainly work with couples and families (but also solo travelers and small groups of friends) to plan completely personalized trips to North and South America, Europe, Africa and Asia.

Our tours are typically cultural and culinary in nature, but since each itinerary is completely customized (based on travelers’ interests and priorities), each trip is unique. This year we have planned trips for clients, incl. to Mexico, Colombia, Argentina, Spain, Greece, Italy, Peru, Ecuador, Portugal and Scandinavia. “

HBM: Where did the idea for Boutique Explorer come from?

UNTIL: “The idea emerged organically thanks to the coronavirus pandemic. I run a company called Japan boutique since 2013, but because of COVID-19, it inspired us to market. I have had personal and professional experience planning trips to other countries (except Japan), as have some of my employees. Additionally, thanks to our collective many years of experience in the tourism industry, we already had an extensive network of trusted contacts in many countries around the world.

We had no idea how the COVID-19 situation would develop, and Japan has become one of the last countries in the world to reopen to tourists. So we are very happy to have spent so much time during the developing Boutique Explorer pandemic. It has been very important to us over the last few years. “

HBM: How do you stay productive every day?

UNTIL: “Fortunately, it’s easy to stay productive because I love the process of working on and constantly growing the company. Since I know my most productive hours are usually in the morning, I follow my natural rhythm and try to prioritize deep work in the mornings (with that in mind, it may take a while for coffee to start, so I often start with a few simple tasks or emails).

At the end of each day, I always go through my tasks and priorities for the next day so that when I start tomorrow I already know what to prioritize. “

HBM: What are your top 5 tips for a smooth and stress-free business trip?

UNTIL: “While Boutique Explorer specializes in leisure travel, I take a few delegations a year and here are my top 5 tips to help you plan your trip stress-free and stress-free:

1. Less time, more structure. To make the most of my time, I usually plan short but very effective business trips. For example, I often go to Mexico City for 2 days or to Tokyo for 4 days. I believe that I am able to achieve more in less time with less energy. For this to happen, I organize my days strategically, usually scheduling meetings for each meal (for example, a breakfast or coffee meeting, lunch meeting, and a networking session over dinner, for example). This makes my journeys extremely productive, and in between, I still have some time to rest, exercise, or catch up.

2. Book a comfortable accommodation. You may be tempted to just book budget accommodation. After all, you will not spend much time there. But personally, I find it much more relaxed to stay in a comfortable place (whether it’s a hotel or an Airbnb). This way, it is also possible to return to the hotel to recharge between meetings. Of course, location is also essential to save time and energy going back and forth!

3. Book enjoyable flights. Why bother with connections and transfers if it will make you less rested on your business trip? I always choose non-stop flights when possible to minimize travel time and maximize my own time and energy, even if it costs a little more. It is a profitable investment.

4. Have fun. Since I’m in tourism industryMy business trips are inherently enjoyable: I usually meet guides and local experts, visit hotels and restaurants, and explore cities, all for research purposes. Even so, I find it useful to interrupt meeting with other fun activities, be it hanging out with friends where possible, showing off at a massage, or doing something else to take a break from clean business.

5. Plan, plan, plan. I am a planner by nature and profession, and I must admit that logistics is part of the fun for me. I don’t mind doing certain things, but for the most part I find it essential to have a really organized itinerary. It’s nice to have a few unstructured time windows, but for maximum effect I keep them to a minimum when traveling on business. I usually end my trips quite tired but fulfilled! “
